Labeling and identification with RFID

After bar code labels have gained wide acceptance as the standard means of identification in many areas of production and distribution as such, a relatively new technology is increasingly competing with barcodes in some applications. Instead of printing out information on the identification of materials and finished products on a paper label, you can actually use electronic chips for storage.

Instead of using a barcode scanner, the data in this case, is scanned with a device that functions in a way similar to a radio receiver. And that is why the technology is called RFID (Radio Frequency Identification).

The electronic chips are provided with an antenna and can be installed into different designs depending on the geometry and size. These are called transponders or tags. In combination with a carrier material and in conjunction with an adhesive layer, the tags become electronic labels. The handling is very easy for the user. With special printers, the electronic label can be printed with both plain text and bar codes and additionally, some types of transponders can also be programmed by the user having the same printer.

The reading of transponders is as easy as the scanning of bar code labels. Similar to the bar code technology, there are also stationary and mobile systems for data collection available for electronic labels. In some respects, the transponders clearly excel over conventional labels: first, certain types of transponders can be inscribed again and again.

The data on electronic labels can be modified so that the labels themselves can be used again and again as in production cycles.

In addition, the transponders used by GOD Barcode Marketing can be read in so-called bulk mode: several electronic labels located in the reading area of a reader are detected almost simultaneously.
